Blood Parasites:
Frequent hemoparasites (1/100 RBC) noted; the morphology of the organism
suggests Hemoproteus sp., although Plasmodium spp. cannot definitely be excluded based
on morphologic evaluation alone; if clinically indicated, PCR is recommended for definite
differentiation of Hemoproteus vs . Plasmodium spp.

Lymphocytes are small and well-differentiated. Consider these results with knowledge if the
species has a predilection for a higher lymphocyte count, clinical impression, and other
diagnostic findings.
The cell distribution was uneven on the provided smears. This may have affected the CBC
results.

Electrophoresis Comments
The total protein is increased. This may reflect mild patient or sample dehydration. By percent total
protein, the beta globulins are increased and reflective of acute inflammation. Moderate to marked
increases in this fraction can be observed with nephritis, hepatitis, dermatitis, and mycotic infection.
Increases may also be observed with sarcocystosis and chronic chlamydiosis as well as mycobacteriosis. Specific beta globulin proteins which often manifest as a monoclonal appearing
peak in this fraction are also increased in egg laying birds. Followup EPH may have prognostic value
in this case.

The presence of hemorrhage within the left eye makes the diagnosis of a retinal tear or detachment not possible at this time.
Plan to continue the current dosing of Meloxicam (1mg/kg) PO BID. Ketorolac administration will be increased to three times per day.
Based on ophtho consult findings it has been determined that the areas of trauma predate the time of admission.
